Charles "Dave" David Ward

January 8, 1939 — April 27, 2025

Picayune, Mississippi

Charles David Ward, age 86, passed away on April 27, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 8, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Carl and Eva Ward.

Dave began his life of service as a medic in the U.S. Army. Following his time in the military, he worked for Woolworth and Woolco as a sporting goods representative before establishing his own business, Classic Carpets South, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He had a deep love for the outdoors and spent many peaceful hours hunting and fishing. In retirement, Dave made his home on Lake David, where he lived for eighteen years and enjoyed every opportunity to be out on the water. He also found joy in the quiet pursuit of deer hunting. Dave served on the Lake David HOA for many years, contributing to his community with the same dedication he gave to his family and friends.

A man of faith and fellowship, Dave enjoyed singing in the New Palestine Baptist Church choir, where he found both joy and purpose in worship through music.

Dave was a proud Free Mason and an active Shriner. He especially enjoyed participating in local Mardi Gras parades as part of the Dune Buggy group, often driving his bright red Myers Minx with pride and a wave to the crowd.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Acikalin Ward; son Michael Ward (Vida); sister Carol Zervos (Nick); brother Steve Ward; and stepdaughters Esra Hudson, Tulin Acikalin, and Aylin Acikalin. He also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren who will always carry his memory in their hearts .

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Eva Ward; daughters Tonya Rossi and Trudy Dane; and their mother, Deloris B. Bidgood.

He will be remembered for his steady presence, his love for family, and the kind way he treated those around him. Dave touched many lives, and though he is gone, his spirit will live on in thestories, memories, and traditions he leaves behind.
