Hubert Matthews, 95, of Picayune, Mississippi passed away on August 17, 2026.

Hubert was born in Bay Springs, Mississippi to Clifton and Vador Matthews on April 30, 1931. He spent 45 years sorking for TL James Construction and took pride in his work. He was married to the love of his life Emogene Matthews for 50 years and they shared three children together. He was a proud father, grandfather, great grandfather, and soon to be great great grandfather. He will be dearly missed.

Hubert is survived by his daughters Malenda Pullen (James), Deborah J. Scogin, son Virgil Hubert Matthews (Lisa), sisters Pearl Wilson, Hoylee Wilson, Bonnie Jean Russian (James), 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren on the way.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Emogene Matthews, father Clifton Matthews, mother Vador Matthews, sister Annie Ruth Matthews, and one great grandchild.

A visitation for Hubert will be held on Saturday August 22, 2026 from 10AM-12PM with a funeral to follow for 12PM at Picayune Funeral Home located at 815 S. Haugh Ave. Picayune, MS 39466.

Burial will follow at Carriere Cemetery.
