Obituary

James Roy Case, age 79, of Picayune, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

He was born on October 27, 1947, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to his loving parents, Tom Brady Case Sr. and Lucille Brown Case.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Kay Case, in 2000. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Tom B. Case Jr. (“Jack”), Wilburn K. “Bill” Case (“Peanut”), and John H. Case; and his sisters, Edna LeBlanc, Fannie Barajas, and Lucy Cordes.

James spent his life honorably serving his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and caring deeply for those he loved as a devoted family man. He found great joy in the simple things in life, especially tending to his yard, which he took immense pride in and kept beautiful through his hard work and dedication. He faithfully attended church every Sunday, and some of his happiest moments were spent fishing in his pond, enjoying the peace and quiet of God’s creation. He was known for his kind heart, steady presence, and unwavering love for his family. His strength, wisdom, and gentle spirit will be remembered always by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Patricia Ann Velez (Anthony), who lovingly cared for him during his final months, and his son, Walter Roy Case (Emily). He is also survived by his sisters, Nettie Young, Nellie F. “Faye” Stigler, and Mary Talcott.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his cherished grandchildren: Jennifer L. Hayden (“Jenny”), William D. Frischhertz (“Wil”), Robert L. Velez (“CJ”), LeeAnn P. Ellsworth, Walter, James, Adam, Isaac, Elisha, and Joseph.

He is also survived by his beloved great-grandchildren: Dylan, Gracelyn, Memphis, and Brayden.

Visitation will be held on Thursday July 23, 2026 at 9AM with a funeral service to follow at 11AM  at Picayune Funeral Home located at 815 S. Haugh Ave. Picayune, MS 39466.

Burial to follow at Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Though he will be deeply missed, his love, faith, and the many memories he created with family and friends will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
