Obituary

James Calvin Smith, born on November 18, 1953, in Carriere, Mississippi, passed away on February 10, 2026, also in Carriere. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many during his time on earth.

He had a fulfilling career as a carpenter for over 40 years, where he applied his skills to create and build with pride. James enjoyed the outdoors, often spending his free time working on tractors, gardening, and cooking. He was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life and cherished the beauty of nature.

James was married to Teresa Smith, the love of his life, on March 2, 1975. Together, they raised a family and built a home filled with love. He leaves behind his wife, Teresa Smith; son, Michael Smith; daughter, Michele Barber and her husband Hollis; brother, Fred "Butch" Smith; sister, Linda Martin; and grandchildren, Ethan Smith, Ayden Smith, and Braxton Barber. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember him fondly.

James was preceded in death by his father, Milford Smith, and his mother, Bettye Smith. 

His life will be celebrated at Picayune Funeral Home in Picayune, Mississippi. There will be a visitation from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on February 20, 2026. The service will be officiated by Bro. Danny Roy Johnson.

James Calvin Smith will be dearly missed by all who knew him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
