Just days shy of her 78th birthday, Janis Carol Wagnon Turpen passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, July 8, 2026, in Slidell, Louisiana.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in All Saints Episcopal Church in Duncan, Oklahoma. Interment will be in the columbarium at the church.

Born on July 12, 1948, in Duncan, Oklahoma, Jan was the beloved daughter of Irby and Carol Wagnon. She married her high school sweetheart, Bryant Turpen on Aug. 10, 1968, in Duncan.

Jan attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Jan devoted many years to her family as a homemaker while also pursuing her entrepreneurial spirit as a small business owner. She had a remarkable gift for creating beauty wherever she went, whether through decorating and design, tending her garden, or welcoming friends and family into her home.

A faithful member of All Saints Episcopal Church and McFarlin United Methodist Church Friendship Sunday school class in Norman, OK, Jan believed in serving others with kindness and generosity. Jan was a long time member of P.E.O. Sisterhood Organization, a member of Traditional Study Club, and a docent for OU Fred Jones Museum in Norman, OK. She enjoyed volunteering in her community and found great joy in traveling, snow skiing, golfing, attending Oklahoma football games, and spending time outdoors.

Janis was preceded in death by an infant daughter; her husband, James Bryant Turpen; a half sister; her parents, Irby and Carol Wagnon of Duncan, OK; and by her mother and father-in-law, Mildred and Jim Turpen of Duncan, OK.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Roy Mullet Jr. of Slidell, LA; a son, Jeremy Turpen of Lawton, OK; two grandchildren, Georgia and Roy "Tripp" Mullet of Slidell, LA; a sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Bob Heath of OKC, OK; a nephew and his wife, Matthew and Krystina of Jenks, OK; a niece, Hannah Heath of Broken Arrow, OK; a great-nephew and great-niece, Everett and Kate Heath of Jenks, OK; a sister-in-law and her husband, Penny and Greg James of Bethany, OK; a niece and her husband, Clary and Jeremy Carey of Edmond, OK; a great-nephew, Liam Carey of Edmond, OK; and three cousins.

Her memory will forever be a blessing, and while she will be deeply missed, the love, laughter, and light she gave so freely will remain in our hearts.
