John Durham Wood Sr., a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on May 5, 2025, in Picayune, Mississippi, at the age of 85. Born on December 1, 1939, in Lumberton, North Carolina, John’s journey through life was marked by his relentless spirit, profound love for family, and dedication to his career in printing sales.

For over 60 years, John devoted himself to the craft of printing, finding fulfillment in his work at San Jacinto Printing and The Color Company in Houston, Texas. His long-standing career was a testament to his unwavering perseverance and enthusiasm, values he was known for instilling in those around him. John's life lessons spoke volumes; he taught his loved ones to persevere, to never give up, to trust in God, and to believe in oneself.

John was a man who cherished family above all else. He was proud to have married his beloved wife, Marie Wood, on August 15, 1998, a union that flourished in mutual support and deep love. Together, they raised six fine adults. John took great pride in his role as a father, always encouraging his children to chase their dreams with the same vigor he embodied throughout his life.

He found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Family trips back to North Carolina were highlights, particularly during Christmas, when the laughter and warmth of children filled the air. John had a playful spirit; he enjoyed playing golf, particularly relishing the memories of swinging clubs on the Masters course, engaging in games of Scrabble, and recalling the lively days spent playing baseball.

John's faith and community involvement were equally important to him. He was a devoted member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Picayune, MS, and participated actively in the Knights of Columbus, demonstrating his commitment to charity and giving back.

He leaves behind his loving family: his wife, Marie Wood, sons Michael Wood and Mark Anthony Wood, daughters Virginia E. Wood, Monica Simpson (Brad), and Ana Maria Preller (Theo), siblings Bruce Davis and Gerri Ramberg, 3 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. John is now reunited in peace with those he has dearly missed: his son, John D. Wood Jr., his father, Robert Wood, his mother, Ruthie Wood Davis, and his sister Eunice.

As we remember John Durham Wood Sr., we take comfort in knowing he lived a full life, rich in love, laughter, and lessons that will forever echo in the minds and hearts of those who knew him. His legacy of strength, belief in family, and trust in faith will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to call him husband, father, brother, and friend.
