Obituary

On February 4, 2026, Lois S. Smith returned to the arms of our loving Lord. Born in Lincoln, IL, on July 8, 1940, Lois was the last of nine children. She was the cherished wife of Alan L. Smith for 65 years. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Lois was most often found in her kitchen or her sewing room. She was by nature a nurturing spirit, her heart brimming with love and care for every person her light shone upon. Lois was happiest when her home was packed to the rafters with family and friends, laughter filling every corner, or when she was sewing clothes for her grandchildren. Holidays were her favorite time, her yard and home dripping in decorations, the oven loaded with cookies, and her table filled with kids playing board games or crafting with her. Lois was also an avid traveler. She and Alan spent years crisscrossing the back roads of America in their camper. She adored visiting friends on her travels and discovering antique shops in small towns across the U.S. Lois was known for her creativity, kindness, readiness for adventure, and endless dedication to her family and friends. She will be deeply grieved.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her grandson, Niccolo V. Montalbano (Kasey; Gianna). She is survived by her beloved husband, Alan Smith; son, Brent A. Smith (Angie); and daughter, Denise S. Montalbano (Joe). Additionally, she is survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Derreck Smith (Andie; Nola, Jaysa); Krista Smith; Chelsi Smith (Preston); Zachary Smith (Courtney; Landon); Joelle M. Tavlin (Lenny; Rocco, Angelina, Scarlet).

A private service will be held.
