Mavis Rodrigue Hungerford

Mavis Rodrigue Hungerford passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025 at the age of 89, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 9, 1936, in Chackbay, LA and was a resident of Carriere, MS. Beloved daughter of the late Noah Rodrigue and Hazel Martinez Rodrigue, Sister of the late brothers Murphy, Rudy & Junior Rodrigue, and survived by her sister Delvina Back (the late Noal Back) and sister in law Sarah Rodrigue (Rudy). She is preceded in death by her husband Edward Hungerford, Sr and son Craig Guillot (Linda). 

Loving mother of daughters Debra Blanco, Kathleen Kern (Brendan), son William Guillot Jr (Annette), daughters Monica English (Dale), and Melanie Thome (Steve). She is survived by and was blessed with 9 grandchildren (Ginalynn, Nathlie, Stacy, Billy, Kristi, Corey, Kelli, Gabby and Haley), and then blessed once again with 17 great grandchildren (Mason, Shellie, Brianna, Griffin, Alyssa, Emmy, Chloe, Elle, Brayden, Dylan, Liv, Ava, Abigail, Charli, Luci, Hayzell, and Alyssa). She is also survived by nieces Denise and Annette, nephews Robbie and Calvin, and dear friend Fran Simmonds.

 Mavis was a retired Deputy for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Dept (Gretna). Her passion was reading and enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, putting puzzles together, but mostly getting together with her family and playing cards/board games and everyone’s favorite “COOKING”. She "loved" boiled crabs. As hard as everyone tried, no one could ever master her DELICIOUS Pralines, Dirty Rice, Crawfish Bisque, and her Roux. We will all remember her favorite saying “OH GOLLY”. She will be missed dearly but remain in our hearts and minds daily.

Visitation will take place at Picayune Funeral Home, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2025. Services to begin at 12:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
