Patrick Orr Furey, born on April 9, 1938, in New Orleans, LA, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2025, in Carriere, MS. He was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing, leaving behind a legacy of love and memories some of which are possibly fit to print here.

Patrick was a child of the Great Depression who grew up in New Orleans and Napoleon MS. His strong sense of duty was evident through his service in the United States Army National Guard, where he was deployed during the Berlin Wall Crisis in 1961. After his honorable service in the military ended he attended Pearl River Junior College and RETS electronic institute. He became a master electrician and worked at Standard Brands coffee division in New Orleans. He also “worked” at Stennis Space Center for several years. He achieved a hefty weight of 160 pounds and had to start jogging. He resided in Pearlington MS for most of his life until Hurricane Katrina's waters went over his home.

Patrick's hobbies included competing with his brother John and his son at fishing and golf. Until the invention of cell phones It was rumored that he never lost a single event. Ever. Impatient and marginally skilled Pat often resorted to cussing and trash talking to better his chances. The echoes of his expletives after losing the winning fish are still echoing in the bends of the East Pearl River. Patrick was luck personified at golf. He made birdie after skimming a golf ball all the way across a pond into the green side bunker where the ball struck the rake, stopping 1 foot from the flag. He once made a hole in one at Millbrook and all conceded that it was a well struck ball. He did manage to break 100 that day.

A proud family man, Patrick's luck at golf is only exceeded by his luck at "somehow" wooing his beautiful wife Faye Mars Furey. They celebrated an unbelievable 61 years of marriage in March 2025. Together, with the assistance of alcohol, tough love and whatever belt he had on at the time Pat and Faye raised a family that included their son, Kevin Patrick Furey, and two daughters, Roxanne Furey Almon and Sheila Furey Thomas. He was a devoted brother to John Furey, James Furey Jr. and his dear sister, Marceline Furey Mayeaux. They all grieve the tragic loss of their brother Bobby in 1959 to this day. Patrick was a cherished grandfather to most of his eight grandchildren. He is also a great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren, who will undoubtedly wonder who he was someday. He was combative and disagreeable to ALL of his daughter's suitors. Especially Lou Thomas whom he greeted for the first time holding his 4th beer and a loaded shotgun. Lou remains a beloved fixture in the family to everyone except Uncle Jimmy.

He is preceded in death by his father James Furey Sr., his beloved mother Rosalie Orr Crawford, and his legendary brother, Robert "Bobby" Furey.

Looking back at a life marked by trials, tribulations, service, and family, Patrick Orr Furey will be honored and remembered at a visitation held on June 28, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Picayune Funeral Home, located at 815 South Haugh Avenue, Picayune, MS 39466. Following the visitation, a funeral service will take place at the same location from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. No guns, alcohol or marijuana (Lou) are allowed.

Patrick's temper and unwavering commitment to winning arguments will not be missed. But, his love and commitment to family and friends will be remembered forever by everyone who knew him.
