Born on March 4, 1938, he pursued an academic path that culminated in a PhD in physics, embodying the spirit of intelligence and curiosity throughout his lifetime.

Richard was not only a man of science but also a beloved husband and cherished family member. He shared a deep, enduring love with his wife, Susan Slater, who stood by his side for many years. Their bond was characterized by mutual respect and admiration, as Susan adored him throughout their life together.

He was a proud father to his sons, Scott Slater and Sean Slater, and is survived by his stepsons, Jeffrey Becker, and Christopher Becker. Richard was also a devoted brother to Mick, Patrick, Kevin, and Kaye. In addition to his immediate family, Richard was a doting grandfather to numerous grandchildren, who will remember him for his wisdom and kindness.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Slater Sr. and Patria Lillian Slater; his son Keith Slater; and his stepdaughter, Monique Cosma.
