Steve Kent Hespen, aged 75, of Carriere, Mississippi, passed away on December 27, 2025. He was born on October 10, 1950, in Deshler, Nebraska. Steve enjoyed a fulfilling career as a retired commercial saturation diver for McDermott Oil Company. He found great joy working outdoors, caring for the 89 acres of land he cherished and maintained. Carpentry was another interest of his, where he expressed his creativity and skill.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Judy L. Hespen; their son, Hunter S. Hespen; daughter, Haley Hespen Batton; sister, Shirley Payne; and grandchildren, Henley Amelia Batton and Hayes Liam Batton. He also leaves behind brother-in-laws Dudley Smith (Gaye) and Michael Smith (Linda), friends Eric Carle, Darold Pritchard, and Ken Newburger, uncle, Orville Fangmeyer, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, William "Bill" C. Hespen; mother, Ilene Fangmeyer Aurand; stepfather, Ward Aurand; aunt, Sharon Fangmeyer; and brother-in-law, Sonny Payne.
Visitation will be held on January 3, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Picayune Funeral Home, located at 815 S. Haugh Ave., Picayune, MS 39466. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00 PM on the same day.
Steve will be remembered for his dedication to his family, passion for the outdoors, and the legacy he leaves in the hearts of those who knew him.
